Angela Sheppard- Elementary Art Teacher

I was reared in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to Idaho in 1992. I have really enjoyed the Big City/Small Town feel of Boise and it's growing diversity which is well represented at Rose Hill Montessori.

I worked full time while I attended night and weekend courses at Chabot College, Hayward, CA. I have attended many workshops and seminars and want to continue my education well into the future. My Early Childhood Education experience began in 1984 when I became cook for Mongerey Street School. There I moved to teacher's aid, then teacher, and finally Assistant Director. I have been a nanny for two families and a program manager for a large corporation. The last one was more administrative, and though I love a challenge, I prefer to challenge the minds of children. I work for the pure joy of it.

I also enjoy the violin, piano, reading, drawing, painting, e-mailing my friends around the world, and singing with my daughter, Kellie, who is a great soprano. Rose Hill has proven itself to be a great place for me to learn as well as teach.

Duane Harrison - Music Teacher

I believe that music is for all children and is a language understood by all people and nations.   It is always my goal for children to build a life long relationship with music.  I use the Orff-Schulwerk method of teaching music, i.e. speech, language, movement, music.

The method of teaching was developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman shortly after World War II in Austria.  It was their hope to raise the spirits of children after the war through music.  It was their belief that music and movement - to speak, sing and play - to listen and understand - to move and create - should be an active and joyful experience.  The movie, Sound of Music, was filmed at the site of the Orff Institute in Austria.

I served as Vice President and President of the Idaho Orff-Schulwerk Chapter and now as a Member at Large.  I received a B.A. in Music Education from The College of Idaho and have extensive course work in the Orff-Schulwerk methodology.  I started teaching music in Emmett in 1971 and taught there for 19 years.  In 1990 I began teaching for the Boise Public Schools and retired in 2005.  I took off one year then returned to teach part-time.

I look forward to teaching each Wednesday at Rose Hill.  The children are eager to learn and we have a great time.  Teaching at Rose Hill is very rewarding and "fills my cup" each time I'm at the school.  Thank you, parents and staff of Rose Hill Montessori School for providing the children with an active and stimulating learning environment.
