Philosophy Statement of Rose Hill Montessori School

A Montessori education is an education for life. It helps to prepare the child to become a contributing member of society.

For the 3 to 6 year old child, the goal is that of "normalization." The normalized child shows:

  1. A love of work which included the ability to choose work freely.
  2. Concentration and focus.
  3. Self discipline which includes perseverance and the ability to complete an entire cycle of an activity.
  4. Sociability which refers to patience, respect, help and sympathy towards others, and harmonious working relationships in a group.

A normalized child has the capability, tools, and desire to explore and participate in the universe.

The ultimate goal of a Montessori elementary education for the 6 to 12 year old child is to encourage the child's participation in the Universal or Cosmic Plan and to help the child recognize his or her responsibility towards the environment and his or her fellow human beings. The elements of a Montessori education which help develop a child's social responsibility are:

  1. A focus on the interdependence of all things in the universe.
  2. A recognition that every child has certain psychological tendencies that must be stimulated in order for a child to grow.
  3. A realization that a specially prepared environment must be provided to guide the child's growth.

A child educated to recognize the connection between all things will be ready to feel gratitude toward all of mankind and will have the desire to contribute to the good of all.

Our History

Rose Hill Montessori School opened on Monday, June 3, 1996. It was started in order to provide a quality Montessori Elementary Program in Boise, Idaho.

Over the years the campus facility underwent numerous improvements. Outside the playground was expanded to include a large grass play field, a cement patio was added, bark chip replaced the sand around the play structures, a large covered sandbox was constructed, and 6 shade trees were planted. Parents donated a play fort and a basketball hoop, and the PTO raised funds for the monkey bars and climbing apparatus.

In June of 1996 there were only 9 students in the Primary Class. By September, there were 20 primary students (age 3 through K) and 20 elementary students (grades 1 - 4).

In August of l998, after some extensive interior remodeling, the school expanded its elementary program to include both a Lower Elementary of grades 1 - 3 and an Upper Elementary of grades 3 - 6.

In September of l998 the Rose Hill PTO was established as a non-profit organization to help raise funds for school equipment and to organize community building events for the school such as the school picnic, Chili Feed, and Fiesta de Mayo.

At present the school carries a total enrollment of about 75 students for the 3 classrooms. It staffs 8 full time teachers/assistants and about 6 part time teachers/assistants.
